I drove out to Colgate to eat at Joe Mama's Bar & Grill. It sits at 4600 County Line Q, about 30 minutes northwest of Milwaukee, and people make that drive from all over the metro to get there.

I do these the same way every time. I show up, I order what the place is known for, and I say what I actually think on camera.

What the kitchen is known for

The mac and cheese is homemade and built on five cheeses: American, cheddar, cheddar jack, parmesan and pecorino romano. They also run a different mac and cheese special all the time, so what you get depends on the day you walk in.

The other two things people go out there for are the smash burgers and the Friday fish fry, which is bluegill.

It has been on TV

Joe Mama's was featured on Travel Channel's Food Paradise. That is a big reason people outside of Washington County know the name at all.

Who runs it

Joe Vella and Al Wasley took the place over in December 2016.

Before you go

Friday is the day for the fish fry. The mac and cheese special rotates, so ask what is on when you sit down.

The rating

I filmed the whole visit and gave my honest rating at the end of the video. You can watch it on my YouTube channel.
